The brand's new Mercedes-Maybach S 580 e heralds the beginning of a new era. It is, in fact, Mercedes-Maybach's first ever plug-in hybrid, and it signals the coming of a fully electric model.
The Maybach S 580 plug-in hybrid has a quieter engine than its gas-powered sibling.
Nevertheless, its combination of a small electric motor and a six-cylinder engine makes it no slouch.
A highly efficient 510-hp engine maintains its mind-blowing performance figures.
More specifically, it is now able to be driven entirely on electricity for up to 100 kilometres.
As a result, the car's electric motor can be used entirely for short trips without the six-cylinder engine ever being used.
Nothing much has changed from the outside.
There is still a huge selection of paint colors to choose from, including two-tone and the well-known Maybach "dish" wheels.
There is ample space inside the cabin for all four passengers, as well as the most recent technology and high-end gadgets.
The Maybach has everything, from champagne flute-filled refrigerators in the rear cabin to automatic doors.
For the dashboard, you can choose from six different kinds of wood and five different types of Nappa leather for the upholstery.
Mercedes-Maybach S 580 e – pricing and availability
In the spring of 2023, the brand-new plug-in hybrid Maybach will go on sale in China and Thailand, followed by the United States and Europe in the summer.
The new Mercedes hasn't said how much it will cost, but we think it will be around $220,000.
This is due to the fact that, despite being more expensive than the mild hybrid V8 option, the new model will likely be less expensive than its V12 sibling.
For comparison, the mild hybrid S 580 starts at $184,900, while the twin-turbo V12 S 680 starts at $229,000.
