Porsche According to a source close to the company, DE is considering fully integrating Google software into its car cockpit. This indicates a shift in strategy for the newly listed carmaker.

Customers of the Porsche brand would be able to use Google services like Google Maps and Google Assistant without having to connect their vehicles to Android phones under the terms of the deal, which is only being considered for the Porsche brand and not for the Volkswagen Group as a whole.

Google and Porsche spokespeople were unable to immediately be reached for comment. Cariad, the software division of Volkswagen, declined to comment.

Following the conclusion of Porsche's collaboration with Volkswagen's Cariad unit on software research and development, Porsche Chief Financial Officer Lutz Meschke stated on a conference call in October that the company was in close contact with Google and Apple, as well as Baidu, Tencent, and Alibaba in China.

Manager Magazin, which first reported the talks, stated that Porsche had previously been reluctant to use Google software due to Google's excessive data sharing requests.

As software becomes an essential component of automobile design, technology companies such as Google, Apple, and Amazon are competing for control of carmakers' dashboards.

Through a Google Automotive Services (GAS) package, automakers like General Motors, Renault, Nissan, and Ford use embedded Google technology in their vehicles to provide applications like Google Maps and Google Assistant.

However, some automakers are wary of granting the tech giants unrestricted access to the data generated by connected cars or the ability to substitute their own brands for those of the automakers in dashboard displays.

A spokesperson for BMW stated on Thursday that the company was "definitely not taking the path" of incorporating GAS into its automobiles: They stated, "Keeping control of the customer interface is important to the company."

After listing on the stock exchange in September, Porsche became Europe's most valuable carmaker and overtook its former parent. On Thursday, the company reported an increase in deliveries of 3% in 2022.
