In 2023, the PEUGEOT e-208 will undergo even more significant technological changes. After a first upgrade at the end of 2021, which increased the range per charge by 22 kilometres or 6.5%, the new e088 will be the first of its kind.

ts many benefits have made it a popular choice, with almost 110,000 PEUGEOT e-208s produced since its launch in 2019, and this year it has taken the lead in Europe for B-segment EVs, becoming the best-selling electric vehicle in France.

The power output of this electric car will increase by 15% from 100 kW/136 hp to 115 kW/156 hp. A number of improvements will also reduce the e-208's average energy consumption to 12 kWh per 100 kilometres, while the range per charge will increase by 10.5%, or 38 km, to 400 km.

The updated electric car will feature a new, more powerful 115 kW/156 hp engine that will deliver 260 Nm of torque from a standstill. For drivers, this will mean even more driving pleasure - without vibration, noise, gear changes, unpleasant odours and CO2 emissions. A new, higher-performance high-voltage battery with a total capacity of 51 kWh (48.1 kWh usable) and a system voltage of 400 V will also be installed.

Efficiency was a key concern for the developers of the new drive train, and all the improvements have resulted in a very low average energy consumption of around 12 kWh/100 km.

PEUGEOT e-208s in production from the end of 2021 have already benefited from the first phase of improvements, with a 22-kilometre increase in range on a single charge to 362 km, thanks to a boost in efficiency. Combining the first and second phase of improvements, engineers have achieved a 15% reduction in energy consumption while achieving a 17.65% increase in range.

For example, a heat pump in the electric car with a humidity sensor on the windscreen maximises the energy efficiency of heating and air conditioning. A number of improvements were applied during the first optimisation. They will be implemented in the new e-208.

The information provided by the sensor allows more precise control of air recirculation in the cabin and ultimately conserves the energy in the battery by heating and maintaining the temperature inside the vehicle.

The use of A+ tyres reduces the vehicle's energy loss through friction. And an improved transmission allows for increased range on a single charge on motorways and motorways.

The results of the first phase of improvements are particularly noticeable at low outdoor temperatures. In addition to the obvious increase in range, the 40 km increase in range in urban conditions at temperatures close to 0 °C is even more striking.

A button on the centre console allows the driver to select one of the three available driving modes (ECO, NORMAL and SPORT) to increase range or performance. Using the BRAKE mode, activated by another button on the gearbox control line, the user can also accelerate energy regeneration by increasing the deceleration force that occurs as soon as the accelerator pedal is released.

The PEUGEOT e-208 is equipped with an integrated three-phase 11 kW charger. In addition, the e-208's energy reserves can be replenished at public fast charging stations, where the electric car can be charged up to 100 kW. At this rate, the battery's energy level is replenished from 20 to 80% in less than 25 minutes.
